Even if most MH players have a ton of experience with Monster Hunter weapons but there are a few new things and mechanics added to Monster Hunter Wilds that should be practiced before you go out in the wild.

The game offers a training area where you can practice your weapons, even practice changing weapons which is a new feature in MH Wilds.

Moreover, the training area needs to be unlocked before you can practice. The game has you hunting down the Alpha Doshuguma which then leads to the training area becoming accessible.

Monster Hunter Wilds training area is available through the northern sector of Base Camp, marked by red drapes at the entrance.

Here are some of the things you can do in the training area:

  • High Purrformance Barrel Puncher (combat dummy)
  • Makeshift camp for gear changes
  • Interactive settings panel via Luke (Training Area Meownager)

The game has a total of 14 new weapons and a massive 91 weapon combinations. The training area becomes really useful now that the game has added the ability to change weapons mid-hunt, something we weren’t able to do before.

How to Practice Weapons in the Training Area in MH Wilds

The training area is controlled by Luke, you can speak to him to adjust the following settings:

Pro Tip: Enable Smash Mode to practice dodging/blocking against active attacks.

I would recommend that you set dummy to attack while you practice counters. Alternate between soft/hard hides to learn hitzone priorities. Moreover, Disable recovery to simulate high-pressure healing situations.

The training area lets you practice with all 91 weapon combinations, practice new armor skills, and guard/dodges.

Lastly, while actual hunts teach monster patterns, the Training Area is only for mastering weapon mechanics without combat pressure.
