Running on the Frostbite engine, Need for Speed Heat is a good-looking game that runs well on PC and consoles.

Even the most optimized games experience errors and issues on PC, and this game is no exception. PC users report experiencing errors and issues with the game like the no audio issue, black screen at launch, DirectX error, or crashes at startup.

I have compiled a list of fixes to help you resolve the Need for Speed Heat black screen issue on your Windows PC.

3 Quick Fixes for Need for Speed Heat Black Screen

It goes without saying that Need for Speed is all about cars. Not just cars, but driving these cars as fast as possible.

This remains true in NFS Heat, however, players can’t really drive them if all they see is a black screen at startup. There are multiple reasons why you are experiencing this issue on your PC, and the following fixes will help you resolve it.

Fix #1 – Change Resolution

Need for Speed Heat black screen is occurring due to the game running with a resolution that your display does not support. To fix it, you need to change the native resolution.

Launch NFS Heat, when the black screen appears, press “Alt + Enter”, and it will go into Windowed mode, and the game will display.

Now go to Video Settings and set the resolution that is native to your display, and then you can play in the Need for Speed in fullscreen mode and the black screen issue is now fixed.

Fix #2 – Disable GPU Overclock

As stated Need for Speed Heat runs on the Frostbite game engine, and it is very sensitive to GPU and Memory clocks.

If you have overclocked your graphics card, it is the reason you are seeing the black screen when you launch the game. To fix the NFS Heat black screen issue, revert your graphics card to its default clocks, and the issue will be fixed.

Fix #3 – Enable Debug Mode

Graphics cards from AIB partners like Zotac and GIGABYTE are either overclocked by default or use higher GPU and Memory Clocks than Nvidia reference models.

The higher clocks may squeeze more performance, but they can also cause the black screen problem with Need for Speed Heat on PC.

You can fix it by enabling Debug Mode and forcing the graphics card to use Nvidia-recommended clocks. Go to the Nvidia Control Panel, click Help, and select Debug Mode.

How to enable NVidia debug mode on Windows.
Open the Nvidia Control Panel and click on “Help”. Select Debug Mode.
