Nvidia recently debuted the latest iteration of DLSS 5, stepping forth into the realm of neural rendering and promising to revolutionize game visuals as we know them. However, initial reactions to the technology have been largely negative, with many dubbing it an “AI slop filter.”
Developers at teams like Capcom have also spoken out against DLSS 5 and its implications for the future, but some firmly support AI and its integration into game development. Daniel Vavra, the director of last year’s Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, is one such developer, and he believes DLSS 5 won’t be stopped by recent criticism.

Commenting on an extended DLSS 5 preview based on Starfield, Daniel Vavra shared his enthusiasm for the future of DLSS 5 on Twitter.
He notes that the technology could evolve to become a lot more versatile in the future, thanks to the potential for training based on specific art styles. In fact, the Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 director even believes DLSS 5 could replace ray-tracing in some cases.
On the subject of art styles, Daniel Vavra seems to be on the right track since Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang noted in a recent podcast that DLSS 5 could even be trained to come up with a toon shader for a game while staying true to the artistic direction.
Anyhow, the KCD 2 director later went on to say that haters would not be able to hinder DLSS 5 and its progress. He admitted that the technology has ways to go, but he believes it will end up being more than a simple filter, like most people say.
“No way haters will stop this. Its way more than a soap opera effect every TV has when you turn motion smoothing on.” -Daniel Vavra
For those familiar with Daniel Vavra, this is not the first time the director has shared a pro-AI stance on social media.
He firmly believes the technology will allow for more ambitious and bigger games in the future. Like other AI use cases, the KCD 2 director now appears to be backing DLSS 5 as he continues to argue in favor of artificial intelligence adoption across the gaming industry.
