PlayStation has established quite a reputation for itself on PC. Between releases like Ghost of Tsushima, God of War Ragnarok, The Last of Us Part 2, and more on the platform, the gaming giant has garnered a second audience on the PC platform.

With the announcement of Death Stranding 2’s PC release, fans expect the gaming giant to accelerate its PC efforts further in the coming years. However, a reliable insider suggests that this is not going to happen anytime soon.

PlayStation Another Studio Closure

In fact, it is said that PlayStation is now pivoting to a different strategy. Following multiple PC releases back to back, Sony is said to be walking back on its PC focus. This statement comes from the very reliable Jason Schreier, who recently clarified that this is not speculation. According to the insider, Sony’s PC ports were probably not as successful as many made them out to be.

In a recent podcast (via Resetera), he noted that PlayStation’s half-hearted attempt at appealing to the PC audience might be going away for good. The insider went as far as to say that he doesn’t expect to see Marvel’s Wolverine show up on PC ever.

“They’re backing away from putting their exclusive console stuff like traditional single-player stuff on PC. We are seeing Wolverine in September, and that’s that’s not coming to PC.” -Jason Schreier

As per the insider, the approach for live-service titles on PC will remain unchanged, with the company reverting to its traditional model for big-budget system sellers.

This comes as quite a surprise after Sony effectively sped up its PC ports, launching them in quick succession recently.

Validating Jason Schreier’s statement, John Linneman from Digital Foundry also discussed the possibility of PlayStation dialing down its PC efforts in a recent podcast. Elsewhere, insider Jez Corden discussed something similar in the past, suggesting that plans have certainly changed within PlayStation.

If these rumors are to be believed, studio Nixxess Software might be assigned a different role moving forward. Until now, this team has been at its best when porting games to PC, but with rumors suggesting a move away from the platform, perhaps Nixxess Software will use its expertise elsewhere in the future.
