The PS5 officially turned five recently, entering into the latter half of its lifespan. Since its release, the console has offered plenty of enticing gaming experiences, bringing a slew of first-party titles across a number of genres to gamers worldwide.
As the PS5 matures, it could now be headed toward the discovery of exploits and jailbreaks. According to new reports, PS5 ROM keys have now been released to the public.
The PS5 appears to have gone through a major security compromise following this leak, and the leaked development keys can be found on on the psdevwiki. Although nothing substantial has happened as of yet, this discovery is a hardware level leak and will likely lead to the console being jailbroken further in the coming years.
It should be noted that the PS5 was already jailbroken a few years ago. However, this leak suggests more comprehensive exploits of the console will arrive in the coming years, removing the limitations existing in the current jailbreak procedures.
What this means for the future is that PS5 emulation could eventually become a reality on PC. Exclusive titles like Demon’s Souls Remake, which have yet to arrive on the platform, could finally become playable through emulation, but this process would require several years.
At present, PS4 emulation is in the very early stages, and PS3 emulation has only recently reached a satisfactory state. Therefore, PS5 emulation is unlikely to become a reality anytime soon. A potential jailbreak could also lead to plenty of modding potential for the console.
Doing so could unlock extra performance through hardware overclocking, make older games from past PlayStation generations playable on the PS5, and more.
PlayStation has historically faced security exploits across all its console generations. In the past, consoles like the PSP, PS3, and more were jailbroken fairly soon into their lifespans. Even more recent consoles like the PS4 can be hacked. Therefore, it appears the PS5 will continue this tradition.
