Rockstar Games has suffered plenty of problems in the past few years. Many of its early builds for various games leaked, including GTA 6, and now GTA Liberty City Stories.

According to leaked footage posted on X (can’t be shared here for obvious reasons), Rockstar Games’ early build for the PSP version of GTA Liberty City Stories is out.

The builds in question are dated July 26th, 2005 (ULUX-80146 V0.01), and 1st September 2005 (ULUX-80146 V0.02). The PSP version of GTA Liberty City Stories came out a month later on October 24th.

So, what we can see is pretty much the final build before the game went gold and ready for release.

The July 26 build has booting issues, but the September 1 build is playable.

Both builds were first posted on GTA Wiki and despite the removal of links from the GTA Wiki, some users managed to grab the builds, leading to further sharing on other platforms.

When we dive deeper into both builds and compare it to the final game, there are notable differences.

Leaked Builds Vs. Final Game

The first thing to note is that the splash screen in the early builds coincided with the GTA 3 intro. However, the sequence of Rockstar logos was different from what we got in the final build of the game on PSP.

Moreover, some sounds, like the melody that plays after completing a mission, and the absence of background noise during the “Biker Heat” mission, were different in the builds.

Developers used placeholder music from GTA 3, such as copies of Lips and Head Radio before adding different music in the final build of GTA Liberty City Stories.

The game’s map in the early PSP builds was simplified and less detailed compared to the final game which makes sense considering these details are usually part of the final polishing process.

For example, there were no secondary roads, and areas like industrial and port sections on Staunton Island were schematic.

Character models like Mickey Hamfists, Avery Carrington, 8-Ball, the avenging angels, and Jamaican bandits (Yardies) were completely different. These models were later changed to match the character style from “Vice City” and “GTA 3.”

Other details include:

  • The sign above Toni Cipriani’s mom’s restaurant and the design of the Big Shot Casino were simpler in the build than in the final version.
  • The Manchez motorbike was only available in one paint type in the build, which was not in the final game.
  • The V8 Ghost car model was different from what was seen at release.
  • The Bullion car was present in the build but was cut from the final version.
