Rice are used is a plethora of recipes in Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma. For example, you need it to make Azuma Sake among other things. In this guide, I will give you a full breakdown on how to grow rice but more importantly, how to unlock rice growing in Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma.
#1 Use Rice Paddies
The first thing you need to do is make sure to use Rice Paddies to grow rice because they won’t grow on Field Tiles. Rice Paddy Tiles are required to grow rice so place a Rice Seed onto it to start growing rice.
While that’s all you need to do, I HIGHLY recommend placing Waterway tiles right next to Rice Paddy tiles. These tiles automate the process as they fill the Rice Paddy tiles with water without any additional steps or need to manually do it yourself or assign a villager to do it.
Place the Waterway tiles right next to Rice Paddy tiles to get this setup to work properly. But if you place a rice paddy in the snowy Winter Village then there is no need to place Waterways because the snow will automatically water the rice paddies.
#2: Plant Rice Seeds in Autumn Village

Autumn Village is the best place to grow rice in Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma. In Autumn Village rice will have a higher yield compared to others.
Each harvest will get you 24-25 units of rice if planted in the Autumn Village. On the other hand, growing rice in Winter Village gets you 16-17 units of rice per harvest so unless really necessary, planting in Winter Village is not ideal.
#3: Put a Villager on the Job
You can grow rice yourself, sure. But to automate the process you must assign a Villager to the Farming Job. The villager will handle your farming needs and any rice paddy tiles in the village. The only thing you need to make sure is that the Villager must be in the same village where you are growing the rice. The crops harvested by the farmer will get sent to the Shipping Shed.
If you assign the Farmer job to someone who is not in the same village as the Rice Paddies, the automation won’t work.
#4: Get Sakuna

From the online store of your respective platform, download the free Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin Bundle DLC. Then place a Farmhouse in the Autumn Village and Sakuna will show up in the game. Sakuna handles all the Rice Paddies for you. Tasks such as planting new rice seeds and then harvesting the crop is fully automated with Sakuna.
But she only does this for you if she is called in an Autumn Village.
How to Unlock Rice Growing in Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma
There are two steps to this, you first need to complete the Monster Bonding quest in Rune Factory to get the Rice Paddy recipe, Waterway Recipe, and Rice Seedlings. The following quest, Autumn Village Revival 2, makes you plant rice seedlings and explain the rice growing process pretty well.
Types of Rice: Rice and Sticky Rice
Seed | Until Harvest | Village |
---|---|---|
Rice Seedling | 6 days | Good: Autumn Village Bad: Winter Village |
Sticky Rice Seedling | 6 days | Good: Autumn Village Bad: Winter Village |
No matter what type of rice you want to grow, the seedlings are available for purchase at Yachiyo’s Izakaya in Autumn Village.
