Slay the Spire 2 has a ton of items that can make players’ journey a whole lot easier. However, a unique one is Golden Compass, which etches a special path on the map. Does this path lead to a big reward? Is it worth following? Follow this Slay the Spire 2 guide to find the answers.
Golden Compass in Slay the Spire 2
The Golden Compass is an Ancient Relic, which you will come across only through Tezcatara at the start of Slay the Spire 2’s second act. If you choose the Golden Compass, a new path will appear on the Act 2 map. This is pretty good, as you can now just follow a single linear route. It also minimizes the bickering and reduces the obscene drawings in Slay the Spire 2’s new coop mode, which is a big timesaver.
However, that’s where the benefits end, as the Golden Compass doesn’t increase card rewards, gold gained, and quality of relics. No bonus at the end after completing the special path as well, but the path in itself is a pretty great reward.
Should You Pick Up the Golden Compass in Slay the Spire 2?
You want to make sure that your deck isn’t all filled up, which means picking up the Golden Compass isn’t really suggested. However, it is pretty relaxing to ascend floors without thinking of the next step. One big drawback of the compass is that it just creates an easier route, which means you will miss all rewards, relics, or events on your normal path.
Don’t take the easy path, and do the following upgrades from Tezcatara instead:

| Storybook | adds one Brightest Flame to your deck. This 0-cost skill card gives you energy and draw at the cost of 1 max HP. Good for Regent, as they sorely needs more draw and energy. |
Only go for the Golden Compass if you have picked up many relics that activate on Rest Sites. Otherwise, there’s no reason not to go for the upgrades.
