Bethesda’s Starfield was not quite the unanimous hit the studio would have liked, but it established a solid baseline for the team to improve. Since release, Bethesda has been doing just that, and it appears the biggest overhaul has yet to arrive.

Starfield 2.0, an update compared to Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 in scope, has been rumored for a while. The latest evidence suggests that this update is indeed real, creating excitement within the industry.

On a recent episode of the Defining Duke podcast, host MrMattyPlays specifically namedropped ‘Starfield 2.0,’ confirming that he saw this update behind closed doors.

The podcast host and journalist also confirmed that Bethesda allowed him to publicly disclose that he saw parts of the update. He further noted that the team did not discuss information regarding this update’s exact release date or window.

“The way Bethesda’s handling 2.0 (Starfield) is weird. I saw it behind closed doors.” – MrMattyPlays

Because of past reports and how MrMattyPlays referred to the update, it seems Bethesda has decided upon the Starfield 2.0 naming convention for this update. Of course, this is also not the first time journalists have mentioned receiving a behind-closed-doors look at Starfield’s upcoming overhaul.

The big distinction with this report, however, seems to be in the fact that the team may have internally also referred to this update as Starfield 2.0.

Although the exact changes are still unknown for the most part, past reports present a rough idea of what to expect. For starters, it is said that the team is working on making space traversal more seamless, a big talking point during the game’s release.

Creaton Engine has also received major overhauls, if rumors are to be believed. Reports suggest the update was initially planned for a 2025 release but was later delayed to 2026. This may have been done in an attempt to ensure the update lines up with a potential PS5 launch for the game later this year.

Ultimately, whether Starfield 2.0 is comparable to Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 or not, the game appears to be set for huge changes.
