Before you can roam freely in the dark worlds of Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, there are plenty of opportunities to explore the lands and learn various skills that can help you survive on your own.

Also, there are numerous secrets to explore, chests to loot, and mini-bosses to defeat. Exploring the entire Island Asylum will provide you with various valuable tools and enhance your skills that will definitely help you in the later parts of the game.

There are two mini-bosses to defeat in Asylum and get valuable rewards from them. In this guide, I will discuss how you can find both of them, Wailing Effigy and Frantic Berserker, kill them, and what rewards you get after eliminating them in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon.

But before you can kill these bosses, you require the Guard’s Key. After Caradoc lets you go, turn right and head down the hall. You will find the dead body of a guard on the right side of your cell. Get the key from his body and also loot the lock picks, ingredients, and meal recipe in the surroundings.

Inside the Asylum, there is a bridge near the locked Laboratory door; move past it and head down the stairs. Caradoc will be waiting for you here right next to a hole in the wall. In case Caradoc is not there, eliminate the Red Priest and loot the bow and arrows from his body.

Now head in your opposite direction and take a right, and you will arrive at a locked door. I would suggest saving the game at this point to start from here in case you fail to eliminate the Wailing Effigy.

A cutscene will load here that shows the Wailing Effigy. He is a mutated NPC with a large sword and throws fireballs at you. His movement is not too rapid, but he inflicts a lot of damage with his Burning Embers spell.

Dodge his spells by moving in circles or hiding behind the pillars while hitting him with your spells and arrows. When he takes out his sword, you can get a few seconds to get close and deal him a powerful blow.

Wailing Effigy is not that hard to defeat, but the fight might last longer than you thought, as his stamina is on the higher side. So be patient and don’t expose yourself in haste.

After you defeat him, you will get the Grief-Torn Armor and a Dull Broadsword. The useful loot here is the Grief-Torn Armor that comes with 5 extra Max health and 2.0 Armor points. And the best part is its Encumbrance is only 2.5 units. It is a great tool for surviving early in the early stages of Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon.

Follow your way back after killing the Wailing Effigy, and you will find a small hole on your left. Enter it to reach an underground section and meet Sirja to get Max Mana by giving a healing potion.

On your left, you will see corpses blocking your way. Move past them and use a lock pick to open the door. Follow the path until you reach the cell where the Frantic Berserker is locked up.

In case you don’t have a lock pick, search the kitchen area near your cell, and you’ll get enough lock picks there.

If you have found some gear, open his cell’s door and fight him head-on, as the boss is not armed but can still last for quite some time. The melee weapons are not a good choice here, as some damage is reflected. So, this isn’t a good way to kill him.

I climbed along the rocks on the right side of his cell and used arrows and magic to kill him. The arrows you gathered from the Red Priest’s corpse when you met Caradoc are enough to kill the Frantic Berserker.

Once you kill him, you will get the Thorn Helmet and Athlete’s Pride as a reward. The helmet reflects 5 Physical Damage to opponents that attack you with a melee weapon, and Athlete’s Pride, a ring, boosts Max Stamina by 5.
