In Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, Caradoc is a mysterious character that helps the protagonist escape from the Red Priest Prison after being shipwrecked.

Early on in the game, there are various interactions with Caradoc, and in these interactions, some important choices have to be made. These choices don’t have a significant impact on the game’s ending, but they do have some instant ramifications.

When players meet Caradoc for the second time in the Horns of the South. The first interaction involves a question about King Arthur. During the second question, Caradoc quizzes players by requiring them to make a decision.

They can ask him a question, and he will answer it truthfully, or ask him for an artifact. If you are wondering what to do and which choice to make, this guide is for you.

Question or Artifact? The Right Choice in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon

Once you have found Caradoc, you will be presented with two choices. To ask him a question or get an artifact from him.

If you opt for the first choice, you will get answers to your questions. You can ask him about the Wyrdness, how to save Avalon, about your enemies, and about escaping the place. Whatever you ask Caradoc, he will answer without holding back.

The other option is asking for an artifact.

If you decide to stick with this choice, you will get the Menhir Artifact, which Caradoc collected inside the Beast’s Lair. This is a much better option, especially early on in the game, as it increases base health by 5 permanently.

Now you can go ahead and enter the Beast’s Lair. Find a corpse inside, and you can collect a Questing Beast Egg hidden behind it. There’s a chest there to loot as well. The Egg is quite a thing, as it provides players with a pet in the game that you can hatch after walking 5000 steps.

Recommendation: Choose the artifact.

What Happens If You Ask Questions

You end up missing out on some important lore; it feels like the game is deliberately tricking you, the player. I’d normally be frustrated, but it almost seems intentionally designed to make you stop questioning authority.

The Southern captain never explains anything. He just expects blind obedience while you go around killing people and doing his dirty work without understanding why.

Ironically, the man who seems like a ruthless tyrant—the “no questions asked” type—is actually the one who opens up and tells you the full picture. He gives more honest insight into what’s happening on all sides than the so-called “good” captain ever does. I love that, because it makes you rethink who’s really on your side. Sometimes the people who seem morally upright and claim to care about others are just manipulative and self-serving.

You’re just a pawn, totally in the dark, while the “good guys” keep insisting Arthur is evil.

There’s so much nuance that by the time you get to Act 3, you still don’t know who’s actually telling the truth.

After you leave the shipwreck beach, you will find the Lake of Blood. Caradoc is in the Altar of the Forgotten God, which is straight ahead of the lake.

You will see a path that leads to the top of the mountain when you climb the road ahead from the shipwreck beach. The path will lead you to a ruined area that is filled with bandits.

Turn north from this point and follow the wall sticking, and it will lead you to a path that takes you directly to the top of the mountain. Pass the Druidic Altar and keep moving in the same direction unless you spot a lady statue. You will find Caradoc right there.
