Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon offers players various choices throughout the game, and selecting an option often determines how the game will proceed and what happens at the end.

In the very beginning of the game, Caradoc, a former knight, asks players about how they survived the Red Death, a fatal and incurable plague. This happens during the story quest, “The Great Escape,” and is the first consequential choice you have to make.

To answer this question, players are provided with two options: you can either tell the truth about King Arthur’s soul in you or lie that nothing special happened during your time in the Asylum. Picking each option has some instant ramifications but doesn’t have a huge impact on the game’s ultimate ending.

In this guide, we explain both these options and help you decide which is the better choice.

What Happens if You Tell Caradoc about King Arthur in Tainted Grail?

If you decide to tell Caradoc that a fragment of Arthur’s soul rests in you, he will attack you with his sword. You cannot fight him, as this is a part of a game. Caradoc only intends to kill the part of King’s soul in the protagonist.

After you get up on your feet, Caradoc will explain that he is on a mission to find all the parts of Arthur’s soul and kill them. King Arthur, the founder and the former ruler of Avalon, can come back to life if parts of his soul are alive.

Caradoc has his reasons justified because every time this happens, the Wyrdness in Avalon increases and it becomes darker.

After all of this, you will be allowed to rest for a while at a campfire.

While you are there, King Arthur will appear and say that he survived the attack and urge you to explore the truth in your quest to save the land. After this dialogue, you can leave and continue on your mission.

What Happens if You Lie to Caradoc About King Arthur?

If you opt for the second option, Caradoc will explain his mission of killing Arthur. Just like the choice above, you will be allowed to rest at a bonfire. King Arthur will appear again, but this time he will be thankful to you about not telling Caradoc that a part of his soul rests in you.

The result in both choices is pretty much the same. King Arthur’s soul will survive inside you, and he will hold his promise of granting you undefeatable powers.

The only difference is that if you pick the first option and tell the truth, Caradoc will believe that he has succeeded in his mission.

How to Get the Secret Ending

There’s actually a secret ending you can find right at the start; though it doesn’t go great. If you ignore Caradoc completely and just swim out into the ocean, you’ll get a quick cutscene where the Red Priests catch you, drag you back, and kill you. Game over. It’s a fun little Easter egg to stumble across, but it doesn’t actually give you anything.
