Take-Two Interactive the parent company of 2K Studios and Rockstar Games has officially begun its push for AI in its game development process. 2K Studios, the makers of NBA 2K, Mafia, and WWE 2K franchises has announced a job listing for a Director of Product.

The job listing comes hot on the heels of CEO Strauss Zelnick’s recent comments about using AI ethically in video game development and publishing. The position will direct the evaluation process for AI tools which speed up development and boost efficiency while creating new creative possibilities.

The goal here seems to be the acceleration of video game development process at 2K.

This role will focus on enabling studios with AI tools to accelerate and streamline game development, and establishing a structured learning framework to share insights across teams. Over time, this leader will help define and implement broader AI strategy, which may include centralized tooling and infrastructure in support of gameplay innovation and novel applications in live ops and customer insights.

The main concern with AI will always be the loss of jobs. Many creatives including voice actors, localization experts, animators, and many more have lost their jobs put at risk by AI.

AI is a great way to speed up development and be a sidekick to human developers. However, it is also notoriously used to cut corners to save costs.

2K Studios, known for milking their franchises dry and ruining the once-beloved and respected NBA 2K series, isn’t a company that inspires confidence in its ability to use AI responsibly.
