When you’re on the Proti Island there are plenty of things you can do and learn the game’s different aspects. Apart from the main progression activities there are some side activities you can do as well but due to lack of map markers for these side quests you may find it hard to figure out what to do with it in Titan Quest 2.
One such case is an optional quest to find the Strange Jar. The jar needs help and wants you to take it to the Altar of Hermes. Since there are no markers here you’ll find it hard to locate the location of the Altar of Hermes.

After you find the Strange Jar is near the Proti Village Outskirts waypoint. Look for it in a small clearing. You can see it in the Quest tab of your Repository Inventory. Since this is an optional quest, the Strange Jar itself won’t take any space in your main inventory.
Your task is to take the Strange Jar to the Shrine (or Altar) of Hermes, which is located in a cave known as Widow’s Cave in the southwest section of the island.
To get there, start from the Proti Village Outskirts waypoint and head southwest. You’ll pass a beach with crabs and a ruined boat, then continue north through the cave.

When at the Altar, put the Strange Jar on the Altar by interacting with it to complete the optional quest. During this time the jar will keep talking but Hermes itself. The jar does add a bit of the lore so you can stand around and listen to it but don’t any rewards for listening. However, you will get rewards for putting it at the altar.
For your troubles you will earn a rare weapon for your current class and masteries, and 1850 XP which is a great start to your progression in Titan Quest 2.
