Just as every civilization age in Civilization 7 (Antiquity, Exploration, Modern), the Ageless Tag targets buildings, wonders, and similar objects that maintain their effects all 3 ages long.

Unlike standard structures, which become obsolete or lose adjacency bonuses over the course of age transitions, Ageless structures are always active, the foundations of your civilization’s expansion.

Ageless Buildings continue to persist for different ages, and so retain their yields, adjacency bonuses and effects forever.

They are built only during their specific age. A Granary (Antiquity Age) for instance can’t be built in Exploration Age.

Once placed, they cannot be demolished, upgraded, or overbuilt (replaced with newer structures).

Types of Ageless Buildings

There are three types of Ageless Buildings in Civ 7:

  • Wonders
  • Unique Structures
  • Foundational Infrastructure

Wonders

Every wonder in Civilization 7 is ageless which means you will get unique bonusses that last forever.

Unique Structures

Civilization-specific buildings (e.g., Roman Temple of Jupiter or Egyptian Mortuary Temple) often carry the Ageless Tag.

Foundational Infrastructure

Generic buildings like Granaries, Warehouses, and Saw Pits provide essential yields (food, production).

Pros and Cons of Ageless Buildings

Pros 🟢Cons 🔴
Long-Term Value:

No need to rebuild structures, saving production for other priorities.

Adjacency Synergy:

Stack bonuses over time (e.g., Temples + Happiness buildings).

Crisis Resilience:

Maintain core yields during age transitions.
Opportunity Cost:

Uses resources that could fund age-specific upgrades or armies.

Tile Lock-In:

Poor placement blocks future infrastructure or wastes adjacency.
Missed Deadlines:

Permanently unavailable if not built in their native age.

Should You Build Ageless Buildings in Civilization 7

If you are going to build ageless building or avoid them completely, then you need to know some things.

If you’re building ageless structures, then focus on building them in their native age to avoid missing out. It is also important to plan the adjacency so Cluster Ageless Buildings with complementary structures (e.g., Happiness buildings near Temples). Placing Ageless Buildings in isolated areas forfeits long-term potential so you again, adjacency is key.

If you complete Legacy Path milestones you can unlock bonuses that boost Ageless yields. I also recommend using Crisis Policies to mitigate penalties during age transitions while relying on Ageless stability.

Building these structures offers big advantages, but they become permanent fixtures on your map. Through the ages you will unlock more buildings, mostly on Urban tiles (with some bonus if positioned next to specific buildings).

Take the temple of Jupiter, for example.

This timeless building grants you a +1 Culture for every Happiness Constructible next to it.

If you surround it with buildings that aren’t Happiness Constructible, the bonus is lost. This applies to all other immortal buildings that increase Happiness only when a certain other structure is present next to them.

This mechanic is one that many different buildings have, and you can check the tooltips of all of them to see the adjacent bonuses.

Since placement is so important, you will want to carefully think about where to build an ageless building because its location is permanent.
