If you are looking for Raw Food you need to make sure you find Organic Deposits. These are then converted to Raw Foods and the next is to get cooked meals out of them. There are two steps that lead to Raw Food, the first one is getting your hands on Organic Deposits and in this guide, we will discuss everything you need to know to get your hands on Organics in The Alters.
How to Get Organic Deposits in The Alters
Organic Deposits in The Alter are found and then mined to get the good stuff out. To do this you need to use the Polygonal Scanner which must be crafted first.
Hold down the Q button to bring out the equipment wheel that lets you select the Polygonal Scanner. By default, it is set on “2” if you want to skip the wheel step.
With the scanner in hand what you need to do locate the Organic Nodes. These are usually near geysers, and are often indicated by Blue Smoke or a Droplet on the map.
Place up to 6 scanner probes on the ground around the suspected area where you think Organic Nodes might be. It is best to keep scanner probes within 5m of each other.
The scanner will show contour lines and a heatmap indicating the proximity to the deposit. Darker red areas indicate you are closer to the vein.
Hold down the F button while placing the Probes to emit a Sonar pulse that pinpoints the exact location of the Organic Deposit.
Sometimes deposits are blocked by destructible walls or anomalies; you’ll need to clear these to access the deposit.
How to Mine Organic Nodes in The Alters
Once you know where the Organic Nodes aka Organic Deposits are, switch to Building Mode and place a Mining Outpost on the highlighted circle on the ground. You then must connect the outpost to your base using Pylons (each Pylon can be placed up to 40 meters apart).
Now just interact with the mining outpost to harvest the Organic Deposits. I recommend assigning Alters to the mining outposts to automate the process you don’t have to do it every time you need Organics. But finding new Organic nodes will remain manual labor for you. Moreover, deposits are typically found to the left or right of landmarks like steps or cliffs.
Deposits can be shallow (one-time use) or deep (infinite supply via outposts).
