The story in Road 96 is a roller coaster ride and one of the burning questions players have in mind after playing it is “did Jarod kill Sonya?”

Even after the correct data is shared, Sonya survives because Jarod never kills her. You find this out in one of the cutscenes.

Once you deliver the news report, Sonya goes on a break and deals with her emotions. She is also seen Mariah, one of her colleagues, about a site where a young girl named Lora died back in 1986.

Sonya explains how she did her best to save Loa in the rockslide, but she failed as the debris was too much for her to handle.

The entire situation seems to have hit Sonya hard; she is seen overwhelmed with guilt, and wishes it was herself who died instead of Lola.

The twist comes when the scene pans, and we see Jarod sitting a few meters away from Sonya listening to her story. As he learns of her guilt Jarod decides in that moment not to kill her; so Sony is spared in Road 96.

We see Jarod holster his gun but Mitch and Stan spot Jarod and tackle him. Unfortunately, Jarod himself is shot in the chaos, but he manages to escape as Sonya’s brothers check on her.

No matter what you say to Mitch and Stan about the date of the attack, Sonya won’t be killed in Road 96.
