Anthem remains one of the gaming industry’s most interesting failures to date. With BioWare leading the charge, Iron Man-like mechs being the center of gameplay, and co-op features bringing the world together, the game had everything it needed for a successful title on paper.

However, Anthem was nothing but a disaster, and EA recently shut the game down completely. The game’s official server closure also sparked debates about a potential offline mode, and lo and behold, modders have already begun showing signs of an Anthem revival.

A video posted by And799 on YouTube shows Anthem booting past the main menu, something that is no longer officially possible after the server closure.

As the modder points out, the video is more proof of concept than anything else, highlighting research on getting the game to recognize the client as the server. According to the video’s description, player data in Anthem is mostly handled by BioWare’s own server, so the goal is to ultimately revive Anthem through a private server.

Over on Reddit, user Next-Atmosphere9202 also confirmed the involvement of the Fort’s Forge team in this project. The user noted that this project is still very ‘hacky’ in nature, advising fans to keep expectations in check for now. Those who wish to stay updated on its progress, however, can join the team’s official Discord server.

Also, it goes without saying, but this revival project is being worked on for the PC platform. As it stands, Anthem is gone forever on both PlayStation and Xbox.

In the past, modders have already brought various games back to life. With the current interest in Anthem and ongoing discussions regarding the game, perhaps more and more people will take an interest in reviving one of BioWare’s most controversial releases.

Whatever the case, it will certainly be interesting to see how this revival project progresses in the coming months.
