Gaming has become quite a bit more expensive over the last few years. Between more expensive consoles, a new $70 standard for AAA titles, and pricier subscription services, gaming as a hobby is no longer as affordable as it used to be.
Yet, it seems this is far from the last of gaming’s price hikes. According to a former Call of Duty developer, it’s only a matter of time before AAA titles reach the $100 price point.

As shared by Pirat Nation, former Call of Duty director Greg Reisdorf recently discussed whether Call of Duty would be the first to break into the $100 pricing territory.
According to the director, Activision’s franchise is unlikely to be the first to make the transition to this price point, but market demand will eventually push all games in this direction. He noted that investors will eventually hope to hit this price target due to the increasing costs of producing big titles.
Greg Reisdorf went on to say that it will take one studio switching to $100 releases to get everyone else to follow suit. He also stated that the talented artists and designers working on AAA releases don’t work for peanuts. This is precisely why games require such huge budgets to make in today’s environment.
“I don’t think Call of Duty will be the first one to do it, but at some point, the market demands it.” -Greg Reisdorf
Previously, many have also discussed a potential $100 launch price for GTA 6. It is said that only Rockstar can get away with a price this high at the moment, but GTA 6 taking such a step would certainly open the floodgates for others to follow suit.
In fact, Xbox even attempted to bump AAA game pricing up to $80, and although this attempt ended up unsuccessful, Nintendo took the leap with Mario Kart World earlier this year. Therefore, a future with $100 AAA releases does not seem too far-fetched.
