Finding resource in The Alters means placing a lot of mining outposts. These outposts need to be crafting using the required materials. However, when you are in the world looking for resources, and you run out of mining outposts, how to build more?

The process is simple, but you can’t do it while exploring. You have to go back to your main base and use the workshop to build more mining outposts. Below is a detailed breakdown of this process in The Alters.

How to Build Mining Outposts in The Alters

To put together a new mining outpost, head back to your main base where the Workshop is. Once you’re there, hop onto the terminal and pull up the Production menu. Scroll down to the “Exploration” tab, and the blueprint for the Mining Outpost should pop up.

Getting one built isn’t too tricky: each outpost needs 30 Enriched Metals and takes about two in-game hours to finish. You can start crafting them as soon as your first Workshop is up and running because the recipe becomes available at this point. Crafting a mining Outpost is done through the Production tab > Workshop.

Make sure you keep at least one ready before you head out into the world because if you find a resource site without an Outpost, you’ll have to run back home, and that wastes precious minutes.

Extracting materials in The Alters requires tracking the deep deposits hidden across the map. With your scanner on, you can launch up to six probes in a ring to pin down each site. Richer deposits give clearer signals, and if you see bright red or orange feedback, it usually means high ore concentrations.

Sometimes a deposit is blocked by strange weather, enemy hazards, anomalies, or even rocks you can shoot apart. When that happens, grab the right gear and clear the area before you start building, because skipping the step will leave free loot behind. The extra work is typically worth it: the richest nodes keep spitting out valuable metal long after the first probe lands.

After you find and confirm a resource deposit, hop into Build Mode and drop your Mining Outpost. Make sure the outpost sits right on top of the glowing deposit icon, or it won’t gather anything. Even when the building snaps into place, it won’t begin running until you hook it up with Pylons.

Think of Pylons as power lines and data cables rolled into one. Stretch a line of Pylons from your main base to the outpost, placing each one inside the circle of the next. Once the last Pylon lights up and links up, your Mining Outpost powers on and starts pulling in resources.

Every time you run out of mining posts, go back to your base and craft one. Then come back to place it where you wish to mine in The Alters.
