Cooking is fun in Tales of the Shire; there are a ton of recipes you can try and then share meals with your town folk. But each new meal you prepare requires a recipe so over time you’ll need to unlock new recipes, especially if your goal is to feed NPCs their preferred flavors.

You won’t be able to host a successful meal gathering until you unlock new recipes, which means bonding with NPCs will become a very limited experience. Getting new recipes in Tales of Shire is a simple process, here’s what you need to do.

How to Unlock New Recipes in Tales of the Shire

In Tales of the Shire you can use the following four methods to unlock new recipes:

  • Level up friendships with villagers
  • Through mail after hosting a successful meal gathering
  • Complete tales
  • Perform Tasks and Join Clubs

The most effective way to unlock new recipes is by regularly inviting villagers to shared meals in your home. Each time you host a meal (even if your guests don’t love the food), you raise your friendship with them. As your relationship level increases (tracked by hearts), specific villagers will give you new recipes as rewards.

Higher friendship and hosting themed meals with guests’ favorite flavors unlock rare or specialty recipes.

The second natural method would be to complete main and side quests in Tales of the Shire. Some recipes are handed to you during main and side missions in the game. For example, completing the first main quest grants the “Crispy Fish Pie” recipe, and some recipes are rewards for major milestones like finishing Act 1.

I also found that joining Clubs and performing tasks or assignments for NPCs such as cooking, fishing, gardening, and foraging can often drop new cooking recipes. Completing tasks given by club leaders (like Daisy, Delphinium, Lily Cotton, or Old Noakes) can unlock new recipes.

The best club to join the Cooking Club, it is the most obvious choice.

To keep track of your unlocked recipes go to the kitchen and check the catalogue.
